When a person or business is facing the decision to file for bankruptcy, the situation usually involves bills that have not been paid for several months and an inability to meet ongoing and routine expenses. Often, a person believes that bankruptcy is the only option, but this is not true. There are alternatives, including modification of a mortgage loan and negotiated payment schedules with other creditors. Once we have determined that bankruptcy is the right option, after a detailed analysis of all relevant factors, we will work with the client to satisfy prerequisites of filing and then guide the individual or business through the process of a bankruptcy action. Changes in bankruptcy law over the past decade makes this a very complicated area of law and we are committed to ensuring that our clients understand what is happening and that the outcome enables them to begin with fresh starts.


Loan modification is the mechanism by which a lender and a homeowner renegotiate the terms of the existing loan. Many people believe that this is not a realistic probability for them, but the reality is that many lenders will recover far more money if they work with the homeowners rather than pursuing foreclosure because of the extreme decrease in property values. Whether or not there is a federal program that supports modification, we will work with the homeowner and lender to create a new payment schedule through a decrease in interest rates, extension of the loan term, or a reduction in the principal balance with the ultimate goal of a plan that the homeowner can satisfy.


Real estate transactions may be as basic as a family finding a first home and completing closing without any obstacles or it may involve a commercial transaction requiring zoning analyses, feasibility studies, and structured financing agreements. Regardless of the type of real estate deal, our skilled attorneys will facilitate all aspects of the transaction.
