GM Law provides legal services to New York residents in the areas of Queens County and Brooklyn County, New York. When Georgette Miller founded the firm, she made the decision to provide legal assistance to those in need of help with honesty and integrity.
The environment fostered in each of the five offices that are part of the law firm is one of teamwork in order to achieve the best possible results for the clients. The legal services offered in the New York office relate to bankruptcy and mortgage loan modification.
The New York office is located in a central Queens County neighborhood, in close proximity to Interstates 495, 295, and 678. Our attorneys believe that it is very important to meet our clients in person in order to be able to understand their actual legal needs, so we have made it as easy as possible for our clients to get to us.
We have developed a preeminent bankruptcy practice that is recognized as one of the best in the country in order to assist individuals and businesses in developing a strong financial foundation to begin a fresh start. We also are experienced in negotiating modifications in mortgage loans for those homeowners who are unable to make payments due to financial hardship and unfair loan terms.
In order to provide access to as many people as possible, there are Spanish speaking staff members in our Washington, D.C. Metro office.
Our areas of practice focus on bankruptcy, loan modification, and real estate law. By concentrating on these areas of law, we are able to develop the skills and techniques necessary to get the best possible results for our client.
When a person or business is facing the decision to file for bankruptcy, the situation usually involves bills that have not been paid for several months and an inability to meet ongoing and routine expenses. Often, a person believes that bankruptcy is the only option, but this is not true. There are alternatives, including modification of a mortgage loan and negotiated payment schedules with other creditors. Once we have determined that bankruptcy is the right option, after a detailed analysis of all relevant factors, we will work with the client to satisfy prerequisites of filing and then guide the individual or business through the process of a bankruptcy action. Changes in bankruptcy law over the past decade makes this a very complicated area of law and we are committed to ensuring that our clients understand what is happening and that the outcome enables them to begin with fresh starts.
Loan modification is the mechanism by which a lender and a homeowner renegotiate the terms of the existing loan. Many people believe that this is not a realistic probability for them, but the reality is that many lenders will recover far more money if they work with the homeowners rather than pursuing foreclosure because of the extreme decrease in property values. Whether or not there is a federal program that supports modification, we will work with the homeowner and lender to create a new payment schedule through a decrease in interest rates, extension of the loan term, or a reduction in the principal balance with the ultimate goal of a plan that the homeowner can satisfy.
Real estate transactions may be as basic as a family finding a first home and completing closing without any obstacles or it may involve a commercial transaction requiring zoning analyses, feasibility studies, and structured financing agreements. Regardless of the type of real estate deal, our skilled attorneys will facilitate all aspects of the transaction.
GM Law operates each of its offices with the understanding that our attorneys will provide the best possible representation as part of a team with our staff and clients.
